Éloignée de son frère qui a quitté leur banlieue natale pour devenir éleveur dans le Limousin, la cinéaste vient filmer avec lui un western, genre qui a marqué leur enfance. L’épopée flanche, mais apparaît en creux la radiographie d’une petite paysannerie au bord de l’étranglement financier.

After growing apart from her brother, who left their suburban home to become a livestock farmer in the Limousin, the filmmaker joins him to make a western, a genre that had marked their childhood. The epic peters out, but what emerges is the radiograph of a small community on the brink of financial ruin.

Le grand-père du cinéaste, paysagiste, a conçu un vaste terrain, mi-bois mi-jardin. Sa descendance vient à tour de rôle arroser le cèdre sous lequel ses cendres reposent – l’occasion d’un portrait familial diffracté par un vertige généalogique.

The filmmaker’s grandfather, landscape gardener, designed a vast area of half-woods and half-garden. His descendants each take their turn to water the cedar under which his ashes are buried – an opportunity to paint a family portrait in a dizzying kaleidoscope of genealogy.
